Exciting Launch of iSOTA - Summits On The Air 2.0 DXPortable News - January 3, 2025
What is iSOTA?
iSOTA is an amateur radio operating award program that encourages licensed amateur radio operators to set up temporary stations on summits, highground attractions, and hilltops not less than 150 meters above sea level. Participants, known as climbers, can use any method of travel, including hiking, mountain climbing, and cycling, to reach these summits. Once at the summit, they operate their amateur radio station and make contacts with other amateur radio operators, known as hunters, who listen in and send in reports.
How Does it Work?
Participants earn points based on the bands they operate on and the difficulty of the setup on each band. Propagation is one of the factors considered in the point mapping, and points vary on each band. Additional bonuses are awarded for achievements such as DXCC and call area contacts. Points are awarded to both climbers and hunters, and awards are given based on accumulated points and special criteria.
Version 2.0 - What’s New?
iSOTA Version 2.0 comes with a host of new features and improvements over the previous version. Participants can look forward to more engaging challenges, enhanced tracking and scoring systems, and a more interactive platform that makes it easier to share your achievements and connect with fellow radio enthusiasts. Additionally, iSOTA 2.0 is launching with DXPmaps, our new tool where all registered programs and summits are listed permanently on the map.
Transition to Version 2.0
As part of the transition to iSOTA 2.0, the old version of the program will be shut down in a few weeks. For now, it can still be accessed at old iSOTA link, but please use the new link iSOTA 2.0. Don't forget to check and download your awards from the old version before it shuts down. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this transition period.
Join the Adventure!
iSOTA is open to all licensed amateur radio operators. Whether you're an experienced operator or a newcomer to the hobby, iSOTA offers a unique opportunity to combine your love for amateur radio with the adventure of exploring beautiful mountainous regions.
